Tethering a Touch

I've got an old touch that's been temperamental but since I've been reusing it has played ball. I'm getting back into the ereader side again so getting it working saves money for books right?
My question relates to connecting to the wifi via my smartphone's mobile tethering option. I've used it a lot over the years with two phones now without any issues connecting many types of devices to the phone network. From tablets, computers, tv's, etc. They all work first time without issue. Not the kindle. It keeps saying I need to change the router settings.

Now it works with other devices, what could be wrong here and how do I.fix it?
I have the phone with list of devices permitted to use it's tethering hotspot. Could this be the issue? How do I get the kindle to be accepted? Might not be your interests/expertise but does anyone know what needs doing.
It's a kindle touch (first gen) with a honor 8 phone from Huawei running Android 7.0 if that's needed to answer.
