2 samsungs displaying same collections

Hi, I really hope someone can answer this.  I had a Samsung with Kindle app on and made collections with lots of books in.  When I upgraded to another Samsung, I deleted all books and set up the collections on my new tablet, but those collections also appeared on what was my old Samsung too.  So I deleted them off my old Kindle and they disappeared off my new Kindle!  Is this right?  Is my husband doomed to having the same collections as me?  We share an Amazon account.  If I go into Manage content and devices, our respective Kindles are showing as apparently separate devices.  So I am stumped.

PS, I have checked the content of both devices in manage content and devices, and it shows we have different books. So why do collections entered on one device ('Fiction', 'Autobiography' etc), appear on the other!!

I have turned off Whispersync in the hope this will stop MY choice of books being sent to my Husband's device.  What is the point in selecting my device for delivery if it appears on his?  OK yes I know its only a link and not the full download, but for my husband to have the identical collections and books appearing on his Kindle app seems ludicrous!

I stand to be corrected, but but if you have two devices registered to one account, the books either of you orders will appear on both. The only solution I'm aware of is to have the second device registered to an account in your name.
Unless anyone knows otherwise?

This is a different way of setting things up but my son and I have separate accounts but share one Prime account, which at first we only used to get free postage but we can now use to share ebooks, music etc but only if we choose to do this each time.

However I am not sure why you seem to be getting things sent to the wrong device, except that I sometimes do this by mistake as I have 3 kindles and when I buy an ebook it seems to default to sending to the one I bought most recently and not the one I am using for the purchase.

I have a similar set up with my wife.
If you go to your account on Amazon, into Digital content, Digital management, you can manage your content and devices. You can manage which device receives content. When I order an ebook, I specify which device receives  the ebook..
On your device you can select a ebook and remove it from the device. It will still remain in the Amazon account available to be downloaded in the future if required.
Hope this helps.
