Amazon categories matter!

Hello.  I've read countless articles that say how important your categories are and how you should change them up.  I did a little experiment.  It was amazing.  My book's ranking jumped 300,000 places overnight just by putting it in different categories.
Here's my blog post if you want the details...    https://gracerisata.wordpress.com...
I'd be interested to see what experience any of you have had when you changed your categories.  Thanks!

RE: Amazon categories matter!

I have done this a number of times, I have also read many books regarding category changes. I have not had brilliant success, what do you do when your book lies somewhere between, fact and science fiction.

I just checked your books on Amazon and the category seems absolutely perfect for the book.  You have a good ranking too.  I'd leave it where it is.

To go from  438,864 to 137,597 you only need one sale and in your case it was pages read.  So not so drastic.

But, it is good to change your subgenre's. What will increase your sales especially for a new book is the Hot New Release top 100 list.  You can be on the list for the first 30 days.  So take your main category (you always want to be there) but find two sub genres.  Look at each sub genre of the Hot New Release and see what the rank if for the #100 title.  the higher the better as it gives you a better chance to stay on the list for the whole month.  Find the best two (but still should have some relevance to your story).
