I certainly won't bother with advertising in the future - I will announce KDP promotions but frankly I don't need to use them at the present time.
Completely agree, SteeBee.

Thanks, Nigel. Good luck to you, too.

I thought like Kathrine; it might be the cover.
No matter what, congratulations with the success!

Also, what categories/keywords did you select? I am convinced that getting your book placed properly in the algorithms makes more difference to sales than any amount of tweeting and blogging.
Hi Katherine,
Thank you for your kind words.
I am relatively new to all this so just use basic keywords like action thriller. I strongly believe tweeting does very little so stopped a while back.
I am convinced the key to success is getting on the 'customers who bought this item also bought' lists of relatively successful books and that happened by pure luck in my case!
Equally, the moment those books stop selling and you drop down their lists, your sales go down. Not that I'm obsessed or anything....
Agree entirely. More often than not, a high-ranked Also Bought is the source of an unexpected sales hike.

I've also heard that the Also Boughts are very important. I'd forgotten about that and I've just taken a look on Amazon.  There's an upturn in sales with one of my books which has picked up some high ranking Also Boughts.

Here's another vote for also-boughts. It takes a while after publishing for them to kick in, but when they do - and some are for bestselling authors, the results are noticeable.

I hope you've got a mailing list and a link to it in the back of your book?

My first published book Hide in Time has nothing at all at the back to suggest readers buy my next book or look at my website. I haven't updated it since I published the next books!

Only checked it out a few days ago. I couldn't believe it. But now I know I need to attend to that. I'll put it in the diary for March next year... I might as well give it a thorough going over.

I need to do the same, and get a website!

A very kind friend offered to do a website for me and maintain it for free. It has worked well but I cannot access it to update it so I really need to get a new website too. I'd like to finish the third book in my trilogy and get that uploaded as an ebook before I tackle all these little jobs which will probably drive me round the bend. I enjoy it really but I never know where to begin.

You're saying the blood sacrifices don't have an impact? Ball. Back to the drawing board/off to find another excuse.
