Free Audiobooks in Kindle Unlimited

I have a 2-hour drive to work each day and have, up until recently, subscribed to Audible. But it could get quite expensive going through 3 or 4 books a month so I decided to take a look at Kindle Unlimited. I have worked out how to use the filter so that I only see the audiobooks but cannot find any way of identifying those whose audiobook is free with the KU download until after they have downloaded. As the vast majority require an additional fee to obtain the audiobook I am finding this rather time consuming. I have phoned Amazon but they were unable to help. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a list of free audobooks in KU somewhere?

As far as I know there is no program which makes borrowed books come with free audio; it might be just coincidence that some of the free audiobooks happen to have Kindle-Unlimited audiobook counterparts rather than any deliberate deal.

There *is* a program called WhisperSync whereby actual purchases will come with a discounted or free audiobook. It might be that you've picked up some of the Kindle Unlimited eBooks while they're on KDP Select free days (and free permanent downloads do count as purchases so they will enable you to pick up the audiobook at a discount where the publisher allows this). Those books can be found at https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=5123320031 (click Kindle Unlimited on the left to filter for WhisperSync eligible KU titles).

There are also a few totally-free audiobooks including classics such as Little Women but Amazon don't seem to have any good way of finding those. The best place to start is the free eBook chart for Classic fiction https://www.amazon.co.uk... from where you can use the same filters on the left hand side of your page to look for books with audio versions available.

I got a Kindle Fire so I could use the text-to-speech software that reads the text of an eBook aloud to you.
It is easy to use and works well  Unlike other Android tablets I've used, it doesn't need to take control of the whole tablet to work.
As a writer I also use the function to read my work back to me which I find helpful.

Thanks for the replies. Campbell, you pointed me in the right direction and I think I've got it sussed now. Once you get into the filtered Whispersync/Kindle Unlimited section you have to pick a book you fancy and tap it to get more details. In the box where you would press to download the book if the audio narration is free it will show a headphones icon and say 'Read and Listen for Free'.
It would be nice if you could add a further filter to show only the free audiobooks but at least now I know what to look for I don't have to download the book before finding there is a surcharge for audio narration.

The 'free' Audible versions are very likely books where the narrator is paid by the finished hour. Then they would only need consent from the author. If the narrator is paid by royalty share (author and narrator each get half of the royalty or bounty), both would need to consent. I'd honestly say I'd rather give away an ebook than an audiobook. While as a writer I may put in just as much time writing an hour's worth of text, anywhere from about two to six hours sitting in front of a microphone and at an editing station just seems so much longer. Perhaps because I've never had to type the same sentence fourteen times before there are no telephones ringing, mispronounced words, choking spells, or tongues spontaneously wrapping themselves around the tonsils.
