You can really give yourself the creeps by reading Black Pine Creek by David Haynes. Great stuff. Modern and so, horribly plausible!

And An Odd Quartet by Michael Brookes. Must have been the first book of his that I read. It wasn't the last!

RE: Halloween Reading - Recommendations

Ransom Rigg's first novel (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) was inspired by some photos he first planned to put into a Halloween book of photos. He was persuaded to write a novel instead; still I think it is a good choice.

Thanks, Kath! For recommending me twice.

And yes, Dorte, I agree. I read that just a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The photographs are eerie. I believe there is a large community who collect antique photographs and he spent a lot of time with some of them, trading and swapping images for the book.

RE: Halloween Reading - Recommendations

I book I read about a year ago which came into the spooky category for me, is Scott Nicholson's The Red Church. I've never read anything else by him but this appears to be part of a series. Stands alone extremely well.

I enjoyed our chat, Katherine. When I'm on the laptop again in the morning (just in from clearing the greenhouse and awarding myself a rest) I'll share it around.
