Red Dwarf - new series.

Tonight (22 September 2016) at 9pm a new series (series 11) of Red Dwarf starts on Dave.  The channel has put money into producing this new series - will be interesting to see the results.

RE: Red Dwarf - new series.

I used to love Red Dwarf - the Good Luck Virus may be my favourite idea from the show - but will it work with everyone so much older? My nephew said he'd watched the old shows recently and they hadn't worn well.

RE: Red Dwarf - new series.

I've just watched this and enjoyed it. I'm not fussed about the characters/actors being older - they act no differently anyway. I didn't think this episode was especially funny but Red Dwarf has always been a bit patchy, so I will happily keep watching anyway.

Not madly impressed but I enjoyed some funny one-liners.

This doesn't make any sense. I just tried to sneak a quick viewing before Mr Rosen comes over (he's a die-hard fan of the 90s episodes and gets upset be the mere mention of Doug Naylor without Rob Grant) and I've seen it before. How can I have seen it before? I know they're repetitive, but not this repetitive!

What I Read

RE: Red Dwarf - new series.

The opening Starbug section was very much classic Dwarf humour, done before, pretty much.

As for the old series not wearing well, I would say humour-wise it's worn very well. Fashion-wise, no haha but laugh-wise, classic Red Dwarf is virtually untouchable.

Yes, it's not the same since Rob Grant left but Rob Grant's work since leaving Red Dwarf has been diabolical. Just look at Dark Ages. Without doubt one of the worst comedies of all time. I would love him to come back, but his solo work has been worse than Doug's so I'd be concerned to see what he'd have produced on his own Dwarf-wise.

I've been part of the Dwarf fandom a long time, having attended conventions . Believe me, half of them would watch anything that was made and most of them won't hear a word against Back to Earth, which was probably only half a percent better than Rob Grants Dark Ages. You tell them that though and they'll probably try and hang you.

A fandom I'm happy I'm no longer a part of.

RE: Red Dwarf - new series.

Just watched Episode 2 online.

It's better than Twentica, for me anyway. Doesn't feel as forced. Some genuinely funny lines and the pay-off to Cat's long-winded story is quite clever.

You'll see what I mean.

RE: Red Dwarf - new series.

I can get Dave but the quality's rubbish - no Dave HD for me. (Surely as a Dave I should be eligible for this?!)

I'm tempted to avoid watching any more and just buy the Blu-ray when it comes out.
