Who uses newsletters?

Hello all, I was wondering who here uses newsletters?
How do you go about getting new subscribers? How do you use them to garner sales or reviews?

What I Read

RE: Who uses newsletters?

I have a mailing list - I use Mailchimp - but I only use it to let readers know when I have a new book out. So many authors send out newsletters, I think people get turned off by them unless they really love the author's work and can't get enough of it. If Jane Austen or Mary Renault sent out a newsletter, I'd subscribe...otherwise, it's just another item to delete from my morning's emails.

Am I unduly negative about this?

RE: Who uses newsletters?

I also only use mine to let readers know when I have a new book out. Which in my case means not very often. Smile
