Sad Is there any solution to save my kindle keyboard 3g?

Surely it is not time to throw it out, it has served me faithfully for 5+ years but is now somewhat sick! The charger does not appear to be charging but equally worrying I cannot get the device switched on. I have tried all the recommended methods ie holding the bottom for a number of seconds...then releasing and going for a reset....but when I hold the bottom button even though the green light appears and flashes the kk refuses to wake and I am still faced with the frozen screen....is it the end?....is there nowhere I can stick a pin or paperclip to do a reset or should I finally say bye bye.....................SadSadSad

I think it may have ceased to be. The symptoms seem very like the ones my first Kindle had just before i gave in and rushed round to Tesco's for a new one because I was afraid of being stranded with nothing to read.

Try a different cable. I found the reason my Paperwhite stopped charging was that the cable no longer made good contact. You never know . . .

Is the basic kindle a good replacement for the kindle keyboard or should I stretch to the paperwhite? My main requirement is the clarity and crispness of the the screen and as the basic kindle has a less sharp resolution is this very noticeable?....ie 167ppi v 300ppi.

I too have a much-loved keyboard 3G, now 5 years old and still going strong. I dropped it last year on the patio and the back came loose - pressed it back together and it's still working, though it does get black patches on the screen when I'm using the keyboard sometimes (which disappear when I turn the page and then turn it back again to continue reading). Only thing it won't do now is connect to 3G... which seems too slow to load amazon's home page. But I use it mainly for proofreading so that's okay. I've also noticed its battery empties faster these days.

Once it went into the frozen screen refusing to turn on mode and I thought it was broken... but I kept trying the reset procedure, and eventually it did unstick and has been going well ever since, so maybe keep trying? You have to hold the switch quite a long time, I think.

I had the same issue. I managed to get to speak to someone at Amazon (I know, don't ask!!). Make sure the kindle is FULLY charged, and as one other user says you really do have to hold the switch for a long time. I had dropped it on the drive and thought it was gone forever; I do still have two little black blenishes on the screen but the Keyboard is just so much nicer than the newer models; keep trying!!!
