As far as I know this doesn't make any difference - I get some payments for books under my own name and some for the pen-name ones. As long as they are linked to your KDP account and bank account it should be fine.

Thanks Cecilia. I've found the answer & post here in case it is of any use to others. You can open a KDP account under your real name & any books which you submit - regardless of pen name(s) - will be linked to your account for payment purposes. Apparently some people act as publishers & have different authors on their own account.

I guess you can select the book is part of a series...and in the future to delete it in case you never finish the whole series. I have not tried, but has somebody tried to change that part of the description? it is allowed to be changed in the future editions?

The question of whether you should describe a book as a part of a series is an interesting one. The six novellas/novelettes that I have published thus far have been described as part of a series, although they are all standalone works and contain different sets of characters (although a couple of the latter appear in one, are mentioned in another, and are likely to appear in future publications). What unites them all is place and theme: they are all set in the West Country (hence the 'West Country Tales' series subheading), and involve an element of the supernatural, occult or the uncanny. It'd be interesting to hear others' views as to what constitutes a series: for example, do you think that a series should include some of the same characters, or not? Incidentally, can anyone tell me why my books aren't showing up below even though I've attached them to my signature?

You need to have made a minimum number of posts before your books show up. From memory, around a dozen.
As to a series, I think the books should have some connection. With yours it's the place, so I'd call that a series.

You're going to set up a KDP account. They will ask you a buttload of stuff. That's your "publisher/author" permanent KDP identity. Then you can post your book. You can launch twenty titles with twenty different author names, if you want.  You are your own publisher - a business as well as a writer. There is a KDP Community forum, also. You need to learn about keywords and all kinds of stuff. Just - READ EVERYTHING. Bookmark the pages within KDP.

Remember you can re-upload, so check your book in the previewer. It's a learning process. Come back when you get confused!

Post your cover here for critique is my advice. And your blurb. (And there's no such thing as too much editing for spelling grammar. ) It's not hard, it's just - you have to be willing to put some work in, esp at first. You'll be fine. I'm like a total dunce and with help from forum people, even I do it!

Thanks for your advice Kath. That explains things with respect to the absence of book icons :-)

Having published half a dozen tales set in the West Country, it looks as if I'll be heading somewhere quite exotic for one of my forthcoming publications: Yorkshire. I'll leave it as a one-off rather than create a new series.

I'd say the Amazon process is quite good. The tricky part for us self-publishers is the marketing.
