Mind you, finding some way to arouse the public does help to sell copies.
I have to admit, when I see a truly awful book - a mean, an offensively bad one like '100 ways to make any woman gag for it' - I do sometimes refrain from commenting, for fear of spiteful retaliation.

Actually, custard is probably not such a good idea - being a non-Newtonian fluid, I suspect it would actually do some damage. Okay, I WILL squirt whipped cream at you from a squirty thing. But please don't mention it in your review, or Amazon might think it's some kind of payment and delete all my reviews.

Ahem. Editing fatigue, that's my excuse.... Whistle

(and seriously, I think what that guy did was deplorable)
Is this me you're talking to?  If so, I'll go for the squirty cream, thank you, and  can I have it formed in the shape of a hat, please? A blob on the nose too should win me the sympathy vote and then maybe I can make it to 10,000. And you'd make it even higher as the perpetrator.

I'm amazed at how many reviews it has gotten. Obviously more than 100 1* reviews doesn't seem to put many readers off. Hope they have all got their pith helmets on or are experts at going off radar like the contestants on "Hunted".

Almost all reviews are post bottle incident. That's what they are reviewing, not the book.

RE: Bottled over the head for giving a bad review!

That is a very scary story! I only review when I can award 4 or 5 stars, and then only if I get round to it, which is bad of me but maybe not a bad strategy in the light of this. It is horrible getting bad reviews, and difficult to ignore them, I admit. I have spent time going through every other review posted by someone who gave me a very negative 1 star review, but I've never been tempted to contact them. That way madness lies - or a good storyline?
