My New Upgrade (Paperwhite 2015) First Impressions.

So my KK has finally been retired. Battery was fubar'd, and  hey, who doesn't like new stuff?  Smile

The Paperwhite came from Italy, despite being bought in the UK. Amazon has definitely subscribed to snail mail if you don't have Prime, nothing comes very quickly these days, around a week for delivery.

Not doing an unboxing. It came in a box, with a USB cable and an instruction book.

The size difference is pretty noticeable.

I bought a deeply cheaply case from Aliexpress (China). In fact I bought 2, a bright green one too. 2 cases for around a third of the cost of the official Amazon one!
The purple was a lot darker on the website, almost Aubergine (which was what I wanted). The reality was a lot different, which I suspected it would be.
The new case is lightweight, only time will tell how durable it is.

Weight wise, with a case I was surprised to see it's almost half the weight!

I've had the Paperwhite for less than 24 hours and a big negative is the screen glare. It's hideous in daylight. Not so bad at night.
I have already discovered I can buy an anti glare screen. Hopefully this would improve that.
I bought the "no special offer" version, but was surprised to see adverts that apparently aren't really adverts but recommended content. PFF! Adverts!. Luckily I found how to turn those off.
I am obviously still emotionally attached to my KK, and this newbie will have to grow on me. My first impressions of my KK, was very surprised at how much I loved it (where I thought I wouldn't). I am not getting that with the Paperwhite, but it is a new relationship and may change.

Thanks for posting this - very interesting. I'm quite disappointed to hear about screen glare on the Paperwhite. I'm hoping my trusty old Kindle 4 has some years left in it!

I am a bit daft sometimes! A lot, in fact

The glare isn't as bad as I originally thought. Practically non existent.

One of the first things I did was put a screen protector on. I use them on my tablet and phone, so added one to my Paperwhite.
It's the screen protector causing the glare!
I've whipped it off and currently using the Paperwhite naked. That is the screen, not me btw Tongue

I was wondering what you were on about with "screen glare". Glad you sorted that out.
I couldn't believe how much I adored my PW at first read. I just love mine.

While you are at it, water and feed the birds too. Thumbs Up And come and talk about it at GardenWildlifeUK

What I've found with the cases is the sun makes them curl a bit. They go back to being straight when they cool again.
They also deal with being folded back quite well.

Thanks for this, the weight element is really a big difference and as I like to take my Kindle with me to appointments etc, the lighter the better in my handbag for my shoulders!!

Holy thread revival, Batman!

The Paperwhite is still alive and kicking, despite being flung off the bed several times in my sleep, oops!
The super cheap Chinese cover is still on there, but is now showing signs of wear, but hasn't yet torn through, but it is starting on the edges. The damage to the cover is entirely my fault because I fold the cover back, tentlike, to prop the book up when reading in bed on my side.

I am always almost dropping mine too, I read until I've closed my eyes at least 5 times and read the same bit over and again! I'm so chuffed I went for the Paperwhite, it's a dream and goes everywhere with me!! I have a pink ACcase on mine and it's still going strong, for less than a tenner when I bought it.

Mine is still my best friend forever Smile
I also bought a cheap and nasty cover. I only like the flip over ones (which are nigh on impossible to buy). The red has almost disappeared over fold, much worse than yours. It still does the job, though
