RE: About this VAT malarkey...

Thanks, Ray, Tim, Cecilia, Anna, Linda and Daphne. Some food for thought there.

Are your books in Select, Scribbles?

It's been that long since I logged in to Amazon that I can't remember, Anna. I'm not even sure I can remember what Select is. I must go and have a looksee soon. Undecided

I've just taken a look at one of your books, Scribs, and I think you might be in KDP Select because your books seem to be included in Kindle Unlimited.

I managed to break in to my dashboard and a lot of things have changed since my last visit, and there's Select, KOLL, KU, we're spoiled for choice really. Undecided

Oh dear, I think 2015 has been a quiet start for a lot of people, Tim. I wonder if the VAT increase has played any part at all? Undecided

RE: About this VAT malarkey...

Maybe I've released my books at precisely the wrong time. Always hearing about how higher sales were for authors previously Sad

On the up side I've sold two $2.99 / £1.99 copies of my newly released book since it's mid-Feb release, which in hindsight doesn't seem so bad (especially given my low visibility on Amazon at current). Smile

I've experimented with pricing in the past, and lowering from $2.99 to $0.99 hasn't made much difference (for my full length novels). It seems people that like the sample / blurb enough are willing to go for the higher price anyway, and those that don't move on or look for freebies.

Now Available from Action Girl Books:

What I Read

RE: About this VAT malarkey...

I have read several differing views on price. Some say if the price is low, then the book is not up to scratch. Others insist that they want a bargain as there are so many books to choose from. The best advice I received was to try varying figures and see what works.
But I wonder how many of you would prefer that Amazon scrapped 'free' books? I see advantages to Zon with increased revenue but more importantly, we authors would always receive something for our efforts. I also read that when books are free doubts arise about the number of Kindle owners that actually read them. And that the number of reviews are low compared to books paid for - which doesn't help us with Zon's algorithms. No doubt some authors would want to offer a free book but it would be interesting to see the numbers of those for and against the idea.
