Reviewer of the Year

Just read a great review this morning, not of one of my books or any author I know. But the review gave such a rich sense of the book, that it got me thinking, are any of the sites running a reviewer and or review of the year? Shouldn't they be?

Sounds like they should be, George. I've also seen some reviews where the reviewer has put so much effort into writing a comprehensive review it's more of an essay than a review. I always suspect these people are trying to break into journalism, but it's inspiring to see some people put such passion and effort into a piece of writing.

Amazon have top500 reviewers and the like, but I think that's purely based on numbers.

But if there were a competition for the best reviewer we would need a group of people reviewing reviews, and presumably posting those reviews of reviews somewhere. Then perhaps the public could leave reviews of those reviews of reviews. If you see what I mean.

Yep, I can see it could get out of hand, Ray. Maybe just for the short ones, and a like button with the number of likes being compiled somewhere.

That's how Amazon's top reviewer list is compiled, George. it's not the number of reviews, it how often they are 'liked'. As with any other system, it's not perfect.

Kath's done 439 reviews., with 1221 helpful votes and is at #408
Elaine's done 536, with 3210 helpful votes and is at #40
I've done 377, with 875 helpful votes and am at #881

So if you all like mine and theirs (and other favourable reviews) then we'll go up the charts and it will look good when you have reviews by "top 100 reviewers"

That's great. I didn't realise those Amazon likes were so important.

RE: Reviewer of the Year

You have 2 reviews for Rebellion, me and Kath. We both have "badges" - Top 1000 and Top 500. If you are impressed with that, wouldn't you be more impressed if they said lower numbers Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

For reviewers, yes votes are as important to us as reviews are to authors, so please like them.
