Interesting, but still no competition for me, I would still go with the kindle. And I bet you ASDA customer service and support aren't going to be a patch on Amazon.

6 hrs battery life, backlit, needs a USB cable (and access to a PC) to download books, this is no competition at all. Don't care about it playing movies as that's not what I ever planned to use my Kindle for in the first place.

But - competition is good, even if the Asda one is not a patch on the Kindle. Hopefully, they will now start a e-book price war!

I don't think it's competition for the Kindle, but if Walmart (who owns Asda) wants to take on Amazon, it could get interesting. I see reduced Kindle prices in the future!

It looks kind of clunky next to the Kindle. Not an elegant design.

I agree - probably not going to rival Amazon, but the more competition, the better when it comes to ebook pricing!

The MAIN thing which makes the Asda offering extremely inferior is that it uses a backlit LCD screen. The beauty of devices such as the Kindle is that the technology uses e-ink. After an hour or two trying to read on a backlit LCD screen, the reader will have to lie down in a darkened room with a cold towel round his/her head to get rid of the headache.

Whereas, we enlightened Kindlefolk can read as long as we like with no ill effects.

I am unanimous in that...
