He came on here a month or so ago, bragging about his review site, inviting us to ask for reviews, but was offensive about FAG when asked for more details, and Joo found a YouTube video of someone of the same name having a rant about how it had upset his business plan because people were borrowing and not buying.

Then he posted a review apparently lifted from Amazon.

With KU, the borrower has to read beyond 10% for it to trigger the payment. (and there's only ever 1 payment per book per borrower, so a second borrow doesn't get you a second fee).

Tim, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was a second 'reading' past 10% doesn't get you a second fee?
If the borrower borrows your book again in the future (because they're only allowed 10 at a time, so I presume books are returned) and reads over 10% again, you get paid again.

No, it's just one fee for all time. Just like if you buy a book and remove it from your device, the author doesn't get paid again the next time you download it.

RE: Kindle Unlimited

When I've had borrows in the past, the pay has been rather good so I think KU may also be a good bargain. Hoping the best for everybody. I have only one book in Select, and I'm not going to add more for the time being as I have reasonable Kobo and B & N sales via Smashwords. I certainly earn more there than I'd expect to earn via Amazon loans etc.

What do Amazon plan to do with the 10% feedback data?
They could identify slow, medium, fast and voracious readers. Then what?

I wouldn't be surprised if the next step is to feed that data into the recommendations algorithm. It might be beneficial, for example, to recommend longer and more complex books to the voracious readers — a simplistic way of looking at reading habits, I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon is working on something like that.

RE: Kindle Unlimited

Fantastic Alex! I hope you get many more.
I too have had some borrows for Hairy, Scary Spider? 5 in all.
Maybe KU will be good for children's books and - as a bonus - the price for a borrow is usually very similar to what I receive too. Smile
