Download Items Stuck As "Pending"

Being obstinate (according to my wife - I prefer "tenacious"!), I like to fix problems before I resort to calling for help, so I'm asking for a little assistance before I admit defeat and call Amazon Customer services - can any of you help?I have a subscription to the Independent, and, until today, I've always downloaded it (and, for that matter, any purchased books) via my WiFi connection at home. Today, I rushed out of the house, and decided to try (for the first time since getting my Kindle for Christmas) to get the Independent via 3G. Despite having a good signal (3 bars at least), it refuses to download, and, when I go to "View Downloading Items", it shows as 0% downloaded and being in a "pending" state. It also shows the same when I go to my Kindle account at amazon.co.uk. I've restarted my Kindle (menu/settings/menu/restart), switched the wireless off and on, and even selcted the "Send wirelessly to Kindle" from my Kindle account at amazon.co.uk - all to no avail.
My 3G connection appears to be working, as I can access the Kindle store and the web browser works, but it won't download the Independent!
Any ideas?
