Maybe it'll see the end of the 99p ebook... or not... I seem to remember that when I started with the kdp, VAT was charged at 15%? Or am I remembering that wrong?

I think it did used to be higher. I seem to recall the drop to 3% being news.

VAT went up from 17.5% a few years ago.

It was before my KindleAuthoring time but possibly Amazon charged 17.5% at first then took advantage of the 'Single European Market' to base themselves in Luxembourg and sell to the whole of the EU from there.

That was the principle of the single market - to enable the free movement of goods and services over borders. I remember the big hoo-ha at the time about it - you could buy goods from anywhere in the EU. It was them amended to put the kibosh on 'booze cruisers' by introducing the caveat that it had to be for your own private consumption.

The fact that ebooks are pretty much for your own private consumption makes this ruling even more naughty on the part of the eurocrats.
