I don't know but I think they probably are because Amazon came out with a disappointing set of financial figures.
The way to put a positive spin on things was by pointing up how good their Kindle sales were and that Kindle downloads were more than paperback sales.
Anyway this does seem to be the first nail in the coffin for printed books in the US, although it will take many years before the lid is firmly in place.

I wouldn't be disappointed if I had made profits of $1.15 billion, 28% higher than the previous year Cool

From what I read the disappointment was just that it wasn't even higher ! It's a crazy world.

I agree, it's totally crazy. The market expected an operating profit of $474m for the current quarter but were told it might only be between $260m and $385m. So what happens? Shares in Amazon fall by £20.

The stock market defies belief... it really is bonkers.

In which case that really is interesting. Thanks for that. I wonder then how many people in the States have Kindles. It must be quite a lot....

I. for one, am not surprised by this. In fact, judging by the number of books I've downloaded, I might be responsible for the shift in sales Shocked

Great NEWS or is it?

Surely, Amazon will need to sell around five times as many Kindle books to get the same turnover. At 71p I know 'pile it high, sell it cheap' - is a business phrase, but without the actual KINDLE sales, surely they would be on a losing streak.

Thats why we BRITS only get the USA market hand me downs. No games, No English voices etc.

The other thing I hear that the Kindle has effected - Cheap Airline flights now charging for everything. So people take Kindles on vacation instead of chargeable luggage full of books. "Tough Titty Mr. O'Leary" (However, no doubt Ryanair will charge for lighting next)
