I have no publishing experience Matt but our second KuF anthology is due out in December. If you're ready, go for it!

I would advise against promotions at this time of year, because I think your book would get lost in the crowd. However, promotions are a limited commodity and having a book out there is not. If you publish it now, I can't see that you've got anything to lose.

I assume we're talking about eBooks not paperbacks? Paperbacks have more appeal as presents.

Yep, eBooks. I've not got anything novel length finished that would be worth publishing in paperback yet Smile Thanks for all of your inputs so far everybody. Lots of different views to consider for sure. The Christmas tie-in hasn't even been written yet so if I am to do that I definitely need to get cracking. Luckily for me I am off for 2 days this week and 2 days next so lots of writing time to get that down.
Out Now!

It certainly is, although I'm striving for it to be released as early as possible in December - hopefully the first day!

My memories of last year are that ebook sales went down generally in December. People tend to spend their disposable income on other things like presents and partying. Plus some will be expecting a new Kindle or Amazon vouchers to go shopping with come Christmas Day, so will wait till then.

That doesn't mean every December release will do badly, of course! And although I think Christmas will play havoc with most promotions, there's no harm having your work available. So I'd also say go ahead and publish as long as you're happy with it.

What I Read

RE: Pre-Christmas - A Mistake?

I published my very first book in December 2010 But Can You Drink The Water?  a humorous novel that is not one of the easiest genres to sell in, and it started taking off almost immediately on Amazon UK and that was without any reviews. I didn't do any advertising (I was still new to e-books and there wasn't as much advertising available then).  On 14th December this year I published With the Headmaster's Approval a contemporary romance (supposed to be the most popular genre)  I've done all the Facebook, Twitter and free advertising that is available, but sales are still much slower than in 2010 even though I already have three reviews. I think this is probably to do with the millions of books now available.
My thinking was that the new Kindle owners would be looking to buy books and if mine already had a few reviews it might help with sales. Will have to wait to see if sales improve after the holidays. Rolleyes
