What I Read

RE: is Jack Reacher getting boring?

I am def a Reacher fan, read the books for years but not the last couple, mainly cause been too busy so can't say if they are not up to usual standard. Yes there are holes, yes Jack is a downright killer but there's just somat about him! Would absolutely not watch the film because Tom Cruise is as far from Jack Reacher as I am from a size ten supermodel lol! All book series do tend to run out of steam eventually and I may think that about Jack after I get round to reading last couple but til then I'm still a fan. Thumbs Up

RE: is Jack Reacher getting boring?

Reacher has lost who he is from the earlier books. We read him because we like Reacher getting the best of somebody but the last few books have very little action. It seems as though I'm just trying to get through the filler. He started out being somewhat mysterious with his connection with math, his lizard senses and his military expertise. Childs has forgotten what made Reacher readable and likable. I bought all his previous Reacher books but after 'Make Me' there is no reason to buy again. Reacher has died.

I like Jack Reacher. I think Lee Child has a formula that works for me.
Just like the movie of 'One Shot' it is all about entertainment. I still find they entertain me.
He has done 20 books and it says a lot about his skill that he keeps his fans entertained.

RE: is Jack Reacher getting boring?

I used to look out for the next book and buy it at the first opportunity. Then suddenly a few books ago, he lost something. Yes, he can still spin a story provided he can get over the plot holes to reach the guts of the action. However, perhaps it is time for Reacher to retire and somebody new rise from the ashes. Right now, he is making a small fortune from prequels and short stories, and probably still doing well from the first novels. I would not ignore a fresh hero from this great writer, provided he filled the part.

I've struggled with the latest I've read, which is Personal, but generally I think they still good stories. Personally, If I'd created the character I would have had him settled down by now and inside the Pentagon as one of their official top investigators. But who am I. Someone other than Tom Cruise should have bought the films rights years ago and cast Liam Neeson, and then I think Reacher would have gone on to become a James Bond-esque legend of the cinema. The best Reacher novel in my opinion is the first, The Killing Floor. Great plot, great character and thus the legend began...

I love the Jack Reacher character but after four boring books in a row it might be time to end it. He had a good run
