Veggie Sausages

We bought some Linda McCartney sausages (not made from Linda McC !) and they were vile. Salty and yeuch!
We bought them because they were cheapish Smile (£1 a box).

Today I attempted my own. Well, I made them, using a recipe from the internet.
This was the recipe I used
http://foodfrom4.com/recipes/leek-cheese-sausages/

Instead of Caerphilly cheese I used mature cheddar, I also added a couple of chopped chilli slices in there too.
I only made roughly half the amount, as I wasn't too sure how they would turn out.
I must say, they turned out way better than I thought they would.
They held together really well, and didn't break up at all when cooking. I maybe should have chopped the cheese into slightly bigger chunks, because they seemed to disappear in the mix.

Well worth a future attempt, and quite cost effective too, if like me you have leeks in the garden and chickens for the eggs Smile The biggest expense is the cheese which doesn't add up to a lot.

I'm not veggie, but I do eat a lot of vegetarian food, by choice. I was vegetarian in my teens, when the option was soya mince (bleurgh!) or salad. So much more interesting variety these days.
My OH took a little convincing that not every meal had to be based around meat, but he is now educated Big Grin

He makes spicy quorn stuffed peppers. I'm not fussed on quorn, but he is good at disguising it Smile

RE: Veggie Sausages

Linda McCartney sausages are basically salt, bulked out with salt, with a little salt added for seasoning. (Having said that, they do go quite well chopped-up into one of those "just add water" packs of couscous.)

D and I just had toad-in-the-hole for supper, with Quorn "Pork and Apple" sausages.

The cheese and leek ones do look nice.
Actually Tesco's used to do some nice cheese and leek ones but I haven't seen them for a little while.
I don't like the Linda McCartney ones at all either.

You can make Glamorgan sausages at home. Cheese is a major ingredient - you can google them. Very easy to make and damned delicious!

I did just google Glamorgan sausages. All the recipes I found were very similar to the one I did Smile

They are definitely on my 'make again' list.

I'm veggie and love veggie sausages. The Linda Mc ones are pretty wooden, but I found some awesome ASDA own brand veggie sausages the other day. They were even nice cold, the next day in a sausage sandwich with ketchup. Nom nom nom.

RE: Veggie Sausages

I'm not a veggie and I once got tricked into going to a vegetarian restaurant called Terre à Terre in Brighton. I was surprised at how nice the food was, although the absurd level of detail that the menu went into left me very confused.
