RE: Kindle book gifting?

It does seem to be taking them a long time (similarly Audible's option to buy gift subscriptions) to implement.

I think they need to add a date for the gift as well, so you can gift someone something for Christmas but not have them see it until the big day.

I thought the option was meant to appear by Kindle books - but I don't see it. You would think that a veteran Kindler like me had the sorted, but no...help please...Huh

I bought my girlfriend an Amazon "Gift Voucher" and she is able to buy kindle books with this. At least, no complaints as yet!

There is a way around this for UK users. It's a little involved but it works;

1. First format your book as an HTML file.

2. The person you want to send the book to has an email address associated with their Kindle device. To find out what it is, they should sign in to their normal Amazon account, select the "Your account" button, and choose "Manage your content and devices", then the "settings" tab. Under the "personal document settings" heading, the "Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings" section shows the email address of their Kindle device. This will usually be the same as the address associated with their Amazon account, but with "@kindle.com" on the end instead.

3. They need to tell you this email address, AND add your email address to the "Approved Personal Document E-mail List" a little further down the same page.

4. Send an email to their Kindle device's email address. Attach your HTML-formatted book to the email, and put the word "CONVERT" in the subject line of the email. Amazon will convert the HTML formatted book into Kindle format and it will be delivered to the recipient's Kindle shortly afterwards (takes about 10 - 30 mins).

This method is secure because the recipient must have added your email address to their "approved" list in step 3. As soon as they have your book, they can remove your address from this list if they don't want any more books from you. They can even change their Kindle device's email address as well if they are really cautious.

The only trouble with this method is that it doesn't send the cover, but apart from that it works fine. Try sending an email with an HTML attachment to your own Kindle (plus "CONVERT" in the email title) to check it out first. (Make sure you've updated the "approved" list in step 3 beforehand).

If you found this explanation helpful, why not buy thousands of copies of my book Harvest of Phantoms? :-)

But seriously, I am looking for 5 readers to review Harvest of Phantoms, so I can send you the book by the above method if you would be kind enough to review it for me. PM me if you are interested, along with your Kindle device's address. I'll let you know the date and time that I'm going to send it, then you can add my email address to your "approved" list just beforehand.

Thanks

Mike
