I found them a fasinating read & all the pics & drawings come up well on kindle. Each volume has a different catagory, ie bread, pastries, pies & puds or fruits, desserts,preserving & pickling etc.

Great to look back on the old methods & many that still hold true today. Cool

They do sound fascinating, were they free on amazon or somewhere else. I really like the history of food as well as the modern day eating of it Smile

I got them from mobipocket

here's the link ... just type in woman's institute in search { make sure you use the ' in woman's}

Thankyou....will enjoy those
I downloaded Mrs Beetons Household Management from Amazon..also a real piece of history and includes the cookbook of course.

be warned there are some awful cookbooks on Amazon, not so b ad with freebies but be very careful what you buy. Many US cookbooks use packet foods not available widely in the UK.
If you do buy american cookbooks the Kindlofax has a nice info page explaining american/english cooking terms for ingredients and equipment. (or for americans buying British cookbooks of course)

What I Read

RE: Cookbooks on the kindle

I've downloaded lots of free cook books to the kindle - but haven't even looked at them yet!! Although I prefer reading most things on kindle, gardening and recipe books are the exception. I fully intend to look through those kindle books one day soon, but when I find recipes that I want to try I will write them out - don't want to splash food on my kindle, my recipe books all get pretty messy I'm afraid. Whenever I buy a new cook book I buy a printed one. My husband has recently been diagnosed with diabetes but he has a sweet tooth, so one of the latest cook books that I bought wasThe Sweet Life: 101 Indulgent Recipes with Less Sugar.

What I Read

RE: Cookbooks on the kindle

I downloaded some free cookery books, but found that most of them had links to webpages for the recipes! I like my cookery books in paper format, so that I can add notes and the favourites show their use with splatters from cooking.

What I Read

RE: Cookbooks on the kindle

I have to agree, the only type of books I buy now are cookery books. I would never trust my Kindle in the kitchen while I was cooking. I would be afraid of dropping things or splashes getting on it. Also it would keep going into sleep mode, so I would be forever waking it up again! Smile

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only who has spattered cookbooks - you can usually tell which are my favourite recipes by the cooking stains on them!!
