What I Read

RE: Fake Negative Reviews

I always read any one star reviews when browsing for books and the nasty, spoiler ones stand out a mile. Why does anyone buy a book without reading the free sample which in my experience ensures you don't buy anything that isn't to your taste / well written / worth reading etc.

The answer in a nutshell, Cathy. Rogue one-stars might lose you the odd potential reader, but the odd one might also want to 'see what all the fuss is about'. You have to trust that 95% will use a bit of common sense.

Hope all of this helps, Interceptor. Just put it behind you and crack on with the next project.

What I Read

RE: Fake Negative Reviews

I read one star reviews when selecting books for IBB. I look out for comments like 'This is just an opening chapter to lure you into buying the full book' and 'This is only four pages long' but I don't usually take much notice of reviews that expect a book to be something it's not meant to be.

My deliberately OTT comedies often get critical reviews because they were silly. I like to think humorous fiction fans disregard them.

What I Read

RE: Fake Negative Reviews

I have read the review in question. Personally I feel that there is little to be gained by answering. What is entered on the 'net' stays there.
Like other people I do read negative reviews but if there are more higher ratings, I take little notice.
In my naivety, I have never considered that a fellow writer would deliberately commit an act of sabotage.
I am also new to this game but 'learning all the time', thanks to the folk on this site.
Keep smiling!

What I Read

RE: Fake Negative Reviews

Thanks again for the kind words, everyone. Indeed, I would never reply to any review - except unless to be helpful if I was asked a direct question. One must maintain a professional veneer! I still don't know who did the 'counter' review and I don't think I'll ever find out. It's certainly a purchaser, though. Anyway, I'm onto my next project already.
