Legacy of the Eldric - book 1 of the Prophecy of the Kings

This post was last modified: 12 Jul 2013 03:28 PM by davidjb.
Hi and welcome to my first book in the Prophecy of the Kings fantasy trilogy, Legacy of the Eldric. My books won a Gold Award in 2010 - http://readersfavorite.com/cat-71.htm?review=3451

Kaplyn faces a dilemma. In a heart-pounding journey through a tower set with traps he must find an ancient Eldric talisman. Everything in the tower seems unreal and he must use all his cunning to survive. Vastra, a self professed sorcerer, claims the talisman will reveal the whereabouts of the Eldric who were instrumental in defeating Drachar and the demon hordes in the legendary Krell Wars. But is Vastra to be trusted? He is manipulative and lusts for power.
Their journey is fraught with danger and there are indications that demons are crossing the Divide, but are these random events or more worryingly an indication that Drachar’s might is once more on the rise?
Vastra reveals devastating news. He claims to understand the cryptic lines of an ancient prophecy, shocking Kaplyn in an attempt to sway his allegiance. A cataclysm of power will disrupt the very foundation of the worlds and a rent in the fabric of space will allow the spirit of a dead emperor, Shastlan, to cross the Divide. Not content with destroying one world his ghostly gaze now alights on another.
An epic fantasy set in a unique world as dragons, demons and guardian angels are set to clash.

RE: Legacy of the Eldric - book 1 of the Prophecy of the Kings

Great review from http://www.fantasybookreview.co.uk/David-Burrows/Legacy-of-the-Eldric.html]http://www.fantasybookreview.co.uk/David-Burrows/Legacy-of-the-Eldric.html]http://www.fantasybookreview.co.uk/David-Burrows/Legacy-of-the-Eldric.html
"If you have having a bad day, or worse still a bad week then a fantasy book can come to the rescue - no other genre can offer the complete escapism that fantasy does. Legacy of the Eldric, the first book in The Prophecy of the Kings trilogy by David Burrows is a book that offers this escapism; within its pages is everything that a fantasy fan needs to allow them to let their imaginations soar free.
David Burrows’s interest in fantasy began with The Lord of the Rings. Inspired by the epic tale he put pen to paper, determined to create a story with bold characters and an intriguing plot. In Legacy of the Eldric he has certainly achieved his aim; the characters are memorable and the plot is fast-paced and exciting. It is an opening chapter in a series that I look forward to reading the mid and end parts to.
This is solid fantasy; exactly what a fantasy doctor would order for those looking for an enjoyable escape from reality… fans of Tolkien, Hobb and Moorcock will love what they find here. Definitely recommended"
Hope you enjoy the book too. David

What I Read

RE: Legacy of the Eldric - book 1 of the Prophecy of the Kings

This is the first review in a set, on the series. Starts off OK but ends up brilliant.

http://dragonsheroesandwizards.blogspot.co.uk/

"What I liked. As a first book in a trilogy, this novel took a traditional route. And boy was there plenty to cover in 170 pages. The major players in this book had to slowly come together, form a group, and set off on a quest. The mythology, various landscapes plus other bits and pieces of world-building needed to take place so the reader could acclimate to this new world. An abundance of familiar tropes were used but unlike some, tropes used intelligently do not bother me in the slightest. But then I still read and reread all of David Eddings' early books and they don't come any tropier. (Is that a word? If not it should be...) All in all I was impressed with how much story took place.

The Conclusion. Not bad. Definitely interesting enough to make me want to continue. There was only a hint of dragons but enough of one to lead me to believe there will be much more. Overall a good setup for what I am hoping will be a good old fashioned fantasy romp. Tune in next week and I'll share what I think of book two!"
