Against all my expectations this promotion has gone a bit bananas. It's in the top 50 overall in the UK, broken through the top 300 in the US, and is doing well everywhere else.

I don't understand why, because it's never sold well (especially outside the UK - where I'm not sure what they'll make of people calling each other divvies and wusses) but it has eclipse my other current promotion, The Sugar Men, which I expected to do far better.

However, it is what it is, and as such could anyone please download if you haven't already. It's free and it's here:

Matchbox Memories

And while you're at it you can have this for free too:

The Sugar Men

Many thanks to all who have downloaded.

Perhaps people who have bought The Sugar Men in the past looked at Matchbox Memories but not with enough interest to pay for it. Now that it's free they nab it.

Mmm... dunno Mads. On the face of it MM has the better review history - and it's only been £1.99 or even 77p for a long time. It's also the sheer scale of it - 1000 downloads yesterday alone from a book only a few people ever wanted to buy (but they were the important people, to be fair).

Cheers Scribs. It's actually No.1 in Humour, which is a bit weird.

Yes. I'm sure you've been banging the drum for this, joo. I can't thank you enough. Actually I can. I'll send you a cut from the royalties.Wink

Actually, I'm wondering whether this is all down to covers. I've always been sceptical about the value of covers - they just haven't made a difference in my experience.
Perhaps once you get a bit up the charts they do make a difference.

Either way, happy days, even if not in the slightest bit lucrative ones.

RE: Matchbox Memories - FREE for the next few days.

This is free again for the next few days, folks.
A few review quotes:

"the most engaging book I have read for a very long time - it works as comedy, family drama and mystery"
"funny and sad at the same time, with realistic characters. A highly recommended read"
"'So much more than just a comedy - a wonderful, intimate blend of emotions wound up in a slice of 'real' life, delivered with mastery."
