Colour e-ink Kindle on the horizon?

Amazon have bought Liquavista, a screen technology company previously owned by Samsung, which makes colour screens with low power requirements (using a technology called 'electrowetting').

Some more details on the deal here.

So we could see some colour Kindle e-readers in the future (rather than tablets), which should prove a boon for textbooks, comics, children's books (and anything else which would benefit from colour).

Just heard about this. Interesting stuff indeed. I personally would more than welcome a colour e-ink Kindle. I think the technology is becoming more and more mature and it would be great if Amazon could lead the way with a colour Kindle before any other mainstream vendor hits the market with one.

Would be nice for books with pics but most of mine are just er.... books. Depends on the price.

Interesting! It's generally thought that e-reading technology is moving away from dedicated e-readers and towards multi-purpose tablets, so a colour Kindle might put a spanner in the works. (One of my books would really benefit from colour!)

Hopefully it would mean a general improvement in e-ink displays so that even books without colour would display better, and perhaps with more accessibility and contrast options.

I think it would be a brilliant development. I love my Fire, but for reading my Kindle Keyboard beats it hands down, especially in the bright sunlight when we are lucky enough to see any! Smile

Seeing book covers in cover view in colour would be good.
