Hi, I have a kindle keyboard and was in bed reading last night and thought to myself what happens to my nice tidy collections when this one bites the dust and I have to upgrade, which bought me here to find out how.
Currently I have all of my books on my kindle in collections of; Read, New, Current and then any authors whose work I always buy (series etc), I have collections for those by author name.
It seems that Amazon don't have a way of backing up collections as yet and that Calibre is the way to go for keeping from having to redownload and re sort everything when you upgrade, so I'm off to look at that right now.

Collections automatically sync between devices and apps, so if you install the Kindle app on your PC or tablet, or get a second Kindle, the collections will be there. You'll still have to download all the books though!

Thanks Tim, so if I download the kindle app on my pc and synch it up all my collections will be there. But if I buy a new kindle later on (can't be without one), can I just re-synch between the kindle app and the new kindle to have all my collections etc appear on the new kindle? Please say yes cos I'm having trouble pulling in collections with this Calibre thing!!!

The new paperwhite has had an "upgrade" which puts all the books on your cloud into collections. Unfortunately my collections had got all mixed up before when I lost them and then I had about 3 versions of the same thing and my collections were old, so half the things weren't in my "read" collection. Devil

You can import collections between devices. Try it out on your Kindle for PC. Then never change the name of your collections again Big Grin

Thanks Joo, that sounds like the simplest way to do it then. Just downloading the kindle for pc now. I'm not sure which one I'll get next time, I'd like another keyboard but they appear to have dropped off the Amazon site, meaning I'll have to get a lighted case aswell when I upgrade. You'd think Amazon would have thought of the collection import/export thing really.

Ok can I just check, I've got the app on my pc now and all my stuff is showing in collections, but there is only an import option for the collections button. If when I get a new kindle, I just hit synch and check for new items on the new one, will it find the collections I've saved on the pc app or will it just pull in all my books direct from Amazon and then I'll have to resort them? Many thanks for everyone's help by the way Wink

I knew if I came in here I'd find the answers.

Me too.

All my books are currently categorised.

Finding new books which you have either not seen before, would like to read but are too expensive, own as a book but want the kindle version etc is rather addictive.
