I've got James Martin Cheese & Chive soda bread in the cupboard - it sounds lovely, but will have to wait until I feel less like "that button on my jeans has moved"! For now, we are re-living Italy with espresso and grappa before I cook a stir-fry. Or maybe I won't if I get a second grappa poured by OH! Big Grin

RE: What's for dinner tonight?

Morning all. I just wanted to post this.
I got home from work last night after a battle of wills with traffic as thick as continental under arm hair with my stomach complaining of gross neglect. After the habitual G&T and a squint at the Olympic news I confronted the fridge to seek such sustenance that may be on offer.
Memory being a tool lost to me I opened the door expecting an emptiness intensified by the glare of white light and the echo of my breathing. Wow, not the case. After shoving things around I came across a pack of smoked trout. That`ll do me. Another rummage revealed Anya potatoes, spring onions, tomatoes, spring leaf salad, blah, blah. Added a couple of hard boiled eggs and some asparagus (a fave at the moment).
The sensation of the salad dressed in olive oil and balsamic and the trout with a simple garlic mayo sauce cold against the warmth of the potatoes and asparagus coated with melted garlic butter was wonderful and fast. Added seasoning of course.
Anyroadupwards, the point of this is, WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO ALL THE BOOZE, I thought I had put in there.
Answers in pastry on salmon En croute.

Sounds delicious Bellowsmain - amazing what you can create with a little imagination and stuff that lurks in the back of the fridge! I do love asparagus - my favourite cooking method at the moment is to marinade them in olive oil, garlic, salt & pepper and lemon juice and then on the griddle.

I've been ordered not to play with sharp knives until my fingertip has healed a bit more following a slight mishap with the chopping of onions the other night!

Yes, beware. Blood is an unwanted condiment unless red sauce or a gravy is your aim.
I`m going to try the marinade approach. I would only griddle asparagus in garlic and butter but that sound very good.
