Punctuation question?

Amber giggled. "You're pulling your funny face Granddad, don't worry I'll show you how to use a computer, it's dead easy."

In the above sentence should there be a comma after the word 'face'?

TIA

RE: Punctuation question?

I'd say yes. Whenever I address someone in speech, I always put a comma before the name, because the name isn't running on directly from the sentence itself.

I think so - though I'm no expert. I'd probably split into three sentances too.

"You're pulling your funny face, Grandad! Don't worry - I'll show you how to use a computer. It's dead easy."

RE: Punctuation question?

Instead of "You're pulling your funny face Granddad, don't worry I'll show you how to use a computer, it's dead easy." I would have typed "Your'e pulling your funny face, Grandad. Don't worry, I'll show you how to use a computer. It's dead easy".

RE: Punctuation question?

To be strict grammatically, I'd punctuate as follows:

Amber giggled. "You're pulling your funny face, Granddad. Don't worry, I'll show you how to use a computer; it's dead easy."

LOL, several here with the same idea!! My semi-colon could easily be a full-stop.

Interesting stuff, and thanks for all of the replies, definitely some food for thought there. I'm not sure which one I'll go with yet.

Elaine is absolutely spot on. Jonathan, whilst you are technically correct, semi-colons should not be used in dialogue.

RE: Punctuation question?

Ah, thanks, Damien. I did wonder about semi-colons in speech, but that clears it up.

David, thanks for your opinion on semi-colons; I'll try not to use them again.
