RE: Essay from Stephen King about gun violence in the US. Kindle exclusive.

Read it last night and he is the voice of common sense of course. But he is that strange voice of common sense that seems (to me) the juxtaposition of American politics and their Amendments that are so dear to them. He is a gun owning (3!) advocate of gun control. Definitely worth reading but I did find my self scratching my head a bit after it. I get what he is saying (control on automatic weapons) and I think it is the least that America should do. I suppose it is just a bit of culture shock from a Scotswoman when reading an essay about something that is so ingrained in America.

Scotland: Bagpipes! Haggis! Kilts! The Loch Ness Monster!

USA: Stars and Stripes! Big Cars! Cowboys! GUNS!!

It really is jarringly odd when you think about it properly and if nothing else, this essay made me do that.

I love SK fiction, but I'm not a great fan of this sort of thing - a bit like when pop stars or stand-up comics appear on Question Time, as if being funny or singing well (or being good at writing fiction) makes their views more important than anyone elses.

Stick to fiction, Mr King.
