RE: CreateSpace Versus FeedARead

Very interesting, Rosen.

I'm looking into IngramSpark at the moment for printing locally, rather than the US with exorbitant shipping costs. Sounds like the the higher POD with IS might even it out though, in which case I'd probably stick with Createspace.  Great quality and they always arrive about a week before the ETA.

RE: CreateSpace Versus FeedARead

The quality of my Createspace books so far has been excellent, so no complaints there. Postage when using the middle option which is only a £5 more per 10 books, is within a few days which is fantastic, and you can track them on UPS or DHL. I made the mistake of going for the cheaper postage on my first order, and I am still waiting for these books. I think they are going on a slow ferry via Katmandu, and stopping off at Ursa Minor on the way. I ordered some copies for various libraries on Monday and some of those arrived yesterday (I can only hope the quality is good on those)

That's very interesting Rosen. Any chance of a photo of the Ingram & Createspace versions side by side, inside and out, so we can see the difference? I'm curious you say the book was 2mm thinner - does that make the pages more flimsy or translucent? And also, did you go for 5x8 or 6x9 (or something else)?

And finally, I've heard that Ingram Spark only accept accounts from the US, so how did you go about signing up?

(I'm definitely considering not renewing my distribution deal with FeedARead - the high costs of updates and distribution make it a nonsense for the quantities I sell. Which means that I'll transfer to CreateSpace for the short term, but I may look at Ingram Spark once I have my trilogy complete, if it's relatively easy to get into.)

Here are the books side by side: http://instagram.com/p/l7i95qjs_k/

The pages in the IS version are thinner but I wouldn't call them flimsy. There have thee paper options anyway, so you could experiment.

They do accept UK submissions. You can even choose to work in GBP.

Thanks Rosen, although it's hard to make a judgement on the darker cover.

Just seen the picture of the boxes (and the rainbow wellies! Wink) Blimey, how many copies did you get? 100? You going to distribute them yourself?

I didn't feel a photo would accurately capture the colour differences, because it would vary depending on my camera settings and people's screens.

I am not at liberty to divulge the exact number of copies ordered, but over 100 are going to magazines and newspapers (I don't do things by halves).

The rainbow wellies must be to help judge the colour quality of the printing.[Image: smile.gif]
