I agree. I was extremely disappointed with Dr Who this year. That said, I don't like the new Doctor. As with a lot of programmes, the actors are getting younger to appeal to a younger audience. He's a good actor but he had a hard act to follow. I was upset when the last one (David Tennant) bowed out. To me, he was the best of all who have played the part. Confused

Tennant was pants IMHO. Matt Smith has more facets than a great Diamond, mark my words he will go down as a CLASSIC DW

RE: Best TV Prog over Christmas?????

Well the Doctor Who special I was looking forward to was awful, but then again the Doc's Xmas specials usually are.
Katherine Jenkins bursting in to song.... really?
Upstairs Downstairs was very watchable.
But the highlight was something I wasn't going to watch, but my partner wanted to so I reluctantly sat down to watch "Toast" and thought it was possibly one of the best things on TV this year.
So much so that we downloaded the book today.

Still trying to finish a paperback before I can read my first Kindle book tho!

We shall have to agree to disagree, carryonvending. However, I agree with the diamond bit. Matt Smith certainly is a (rough) diamond. Those who like him will love him in Dr Who. Because, no matter what he's acting in, he's just the same.

I recorded Toast and have just watched it this afternoon. Nigel Slater is my favourite cookery writer - even though I am a vegetarian! His cookery books read like magic. I had already read Toast in DTB when it first came out a few years ago and was really looking forward to watching the film. Oh, it was just beautiful - I had to blink back the tears several times. Absolutely wonderful - and that really nice touch at the end where the real Nigel Slater appeared briefly as the chef at the Savoy - loved it. Yes, agree, the best thing this Christmas.
