Ripping Films to add to Kindle Fire HD

I use a program called DVD Fab, it allows you to reformat or copy DVDs you own.

So I rip movies for use with my 2 TB hard drive so I can watch them on TV, without using the DVD.

Conversly I'm away In Spain shortly using GREAZYJET, so want something amuse me on the plane. So I have books, games and now films.

Using DVD fab, I rip the DVD into MP4 format, then copy across to Fuego HD...... works a treat.
A film is around 750megs.

Another great piece of software is the completely free Handbrake. It can batch up films and convert them to MPG4 format ready for viewing on practically all tablets / mobiles. It converts from DVD as well as practically all web formats including rips from YouTube and FLV files. Also, if you have a powerful computer, it can take advantage of all the cpus/cores simultaneously.

It's available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux for free : http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

RE: Ripping Films to add to Kindle Fire HD

I've picked up the Kindle Fire HD and am very happy with virtually every aspect of it. The thing I want to do most is rip some DVD movies onto it - I've tried DVD Fab (couldn't remove the protection) and Nero (produced an H.264 mp4 file, but the tablet won't play it.

If you've managed to get either of these programs to work, please could you go into more detail on steps to take please? The only video converter I've got any result out of is one called PavTube, but having shelled out for Nero, I'd love to be able to use that if possible.

Many thanks

RE: Ripping Films to add to Kindle Fire HD

I'm beginning to think that there may be problems with .mp4 playback on the new Kindle Fire.

I've converted some .mpg files to .mp4 using Handbrake. The audio is quite badly out of sync when played back on the Kindle Fire. Generally the same files play back OK using MX Player on a generic Android device (Galaxy S3) though one of the them does show slight audio delay (much less than the same file on the Fire).

I note that virtually every video player I've looked at in the Amazon App store has comments about audio sync problems. So I'm beginning to wonder if this is a problem with the Kindle Fire firmware or hardware.

Has anyone managed to get perfect .mp4 playback on the Fire?

Have a look under documents and/or photos and see if it's in there. The movies bit as you say is reserved for Lovefilm only.
