What I Read

I am looking for three or four more beta readers for my new novel

I've just finished my new novel, currently called Ice Diaries. Would any of you like to read it and tell me with ruthless honesty what you think? I find beta readers really helpful, and reckon half a dozen betas are better than a professional editor. I make changes if I think, "Oh yes, that's a good idea", or if two of you make the same criticism. The readers I'm looking for ideally would be able to read it in the next week, and maybe have read one of my other books.

I'd like you to read it like any other book, but jot down anything that strikes you - or use Track Changes. Praise is always nice, but what I'm looking for are problems I can fix before publishing. Things like:
  • Dull parts where your interest dims – or good bits you’d like more of.
  • Bits which make you go “Huh? What’s happening?” Unclear passages
  • Plot holes and inconsistencies
  • Things you think are out of character
  • Rushed bits
  • Unsatisfactory bits
  • Dodgy timelines
And anything else you are less than happy with. Plus your overall opinion.

I haven't written the blurb yet, but it's about a young woman who's living in a deserted 2018 London which is under 20 metres of snow. One day she finds a man exhausted and face down in the snow who has a disruptive effect on her small community...

I could pencil you in for when I've tweaked after the other betas have had their say... (I'm pretty good at noticing typos - jewellers are known for being nitpicky. So is my sister - she noticed an extraneous space.)
