Feed a Read - minimum price for size of book?

This post was last modified: 28 Oct 2012 06:25 PM by alexroddie.
Based on the recommendation of some of you, I'm going to be using Feed a Read for the paperback version of my book. However, I've discovered that they generally require a minimum price based on the length of your title. What I can't seem to discover is exactly what that minimum price is, and where the cutoff points are!

I would really like to price my book at £7.99 but given it is 408 pages long (when formatted and typeset) I'm not sure if that falls into the £9.99 bracket. I've had a look through their website but can't seem to find the necessary information.

Can anyone help?

It's definitely above the £7.99 bracket, I can tell you that - Pompomberry House falls into the £8.99 bracket and it's 340 pages long.

Upload your file then, once its been approved by FeedARead, the pricing options will be calculated for you. You will not be obliged to continue with the title and even if you do decide to, you can re-upload another file for free, as long as you don't send the book to the printers (which you can't do accidentally.)

Out of interest, how many words in your book?

Hm--thanks for that Rosen. It seems a bit sneaky for them to only give you that information after you submit the book! £9.99 is really a bit more than I was wanting to charge for it (assuming it's not in an even higher bracket than that), but then again it looks a lot better than Createspace...

It's not really sneaky because there's no obligation. You can even upload a 408 page of gobbledegook to get to the prices (although you do have to email them and tell them that's what you're doing, or they probably won't accept your file.)

I agree though, it would be easier if they had a cost estimator based on dimensions and page count.

111,000... a cost estimator would certainly be useful!

Ah, similar words to page as me. Won't suggest shrinking the font as that sounds comfortable.

Are you going for premium distribution?

Sometimes you can get away with a lower price if you plan to sell only through FeedARead (not ideal for customers as P&P on one item is pricey.)

For Pomp, the minimum I could set for distribution was £8.99 but I could sell them on the FeedARead website for £7.99 if I wanted to.
