gifting kindle ebooks

i'm going to buy my Mum a kindle for xmas. In the meantime i thought i would browse for some books to buy her to give with the kindle.

Here's the question. Can i actually buy a kindle book now and give it to her at xmas? I have the kindle pc sofware but i'm guessing the ebooks are non transferrable. I also wanted to take advantage of current offers, i.e. buy noe cheap and give as gifts at xmas.

Is this possible?

many thanks

RE: gifting kindle ebooks

Not really, unless your Mum is going to use the same Amazon account as you?

E-books are not transferable to different people, though you can use them on different Kindle's that are registered to the same Amazon account. I share my Amazon account with my Mum for that exact reason, we don't have the same taste in books but can swap them between us if we want, and I can also buy her ebooks for gifts.

If your Mum has her own Amazon account, the only thing you can do is just buy her an Amazon gift voucher.

There is another option, but it involves removing the DRM from the books and that's not legal. I'll point you in the direction of this thread elsewhere in the forum (Permanently saving your Kindle books DRM-free), if want to look into it though.

You could always open an account in your mum's name and buy them from there.
Not sure if you can merge accounts, if your mum already has one?

It's the same as your normal Amazon account.

RE: gifting kindle ebooks

I would suggest either having you Mums Kindle registered to your account and then choosing which Kindle you wish to download books to, or if she doesn't already have an account setting one up for her in her name and buying her gift vouchers to use with it. That way she can choose which books she will have. You could of course just give her vouchers for her to redeem in her account if she already has one. Hope that helps. Smile
