Paperwhite - New to Kindle Section

I've just received my shiny new Kindle PaperWhite in the post today and I'm pretty impressed with it so far.

The light is great and the kindles size and feel is brilliant. I also love the cover view which makes it much easier to find a book then the old kindles list view, but I have to say I'm not impressed with the "New to Kindle" section on my home page where I'm now constantly seeing the amazon store and Rod Stewart smiling at me Tantrum

I haven't found a way to disable it yet and I'm not happy having half of my home screen taken up by amazon adverts instead of my books. Angry

You can move to list view. But yer that’s only 50% of a solution but personally I like list view still!

I don't have a Paperwhite so am not sure of the exact process, but I read somewhere that you can turn the parental controls on to disable buying books from Amazon directly from your Kindle and that will also remove the list of suggested buys from the cover view, giving you another row of your own books instead of ones from Amazon. Not much good if you do buy books direct from your Kindle though!

Thanks l_macd, I was wondering this too. I'd rather I didn't have to do it that way, I like being able to browse the store, but it'll suffice for now.

I only tend to buy books via the computer rather than Kindle so I'm happy with that fix Smile

Cheers I_macd. Thumbs Up

Glad it works for you. Hopefully Amazon will introduce an option to turn this off with a future firmware update, in the meantime, this seems an ok workaround. Not sure if it will have any effect on resetting the Kindle if you were to hit any problems? I'd imagine a reboot/reset when you press and hold the on/off button for 20-30 seconds will still work immaterial of whether or not parental controls are disabled.
