Listomania

Has anyone had their books featured in Listomania lists? Did it have any positive effect?

I've twice been invited to help create a list (which would include one of my books), but I declined the offers on the basis that it seemed over self-promotional. I'm now wondering if I made a mistake.

RE: Listomania

I keep reading this is a powerful tool, and sites encourage the list maker to put their own book at the top of the list followed by other similar books. I am tempted to do this but, like you, it seems blatantly self-promoting. How can you say your own book is in a list of your favourite books?!

RE: Listomania

And when you list your book, do you add a comment as if you're not the author, or do you admit to being the author?
If the latter, is it not pointless as how can the author recommend their own book without bias?!

This is my problem, but if I was going to do it, I'd certainly say that I was the author.

Anyway, I wonder who uses Listomania lists to help them choose books... I certainly don't.
