RE: Kindle Fire 7" HD First Look - Imported US Version

Hi,

Just to clarify please, is there any difference between a Kindle Fire HD purchased in the USA as opposed to one from the U.K.?

Thanks. Smile

No, absolutely no difference at all in terms of hardware on the Kindle Fire HD. As long as the firmware version is up to date, it will behave exactly like a UK one when registered to a UK account.

One thing I'm not certain of though is for the larger Kindle Fire 8.9" models as nobody has tested these yet. The 7" however works perfectly.

I'm away next week in the USA and just want to be certain that if I get the 7" Kindle Fire HD and use the update you posted yesterday, that it will run just like my UK version I got yesterday with Lovefilm,UK App Store etc.My UK version originally showed videos from Prime but after set up and update shows Lovefilm now, just don't want to waste £130 if it won't run just the same.

Thanks for your help.

I can absolutely confirm that my US Kindle Fire HD 7" is definitely connecting to the UK app store, Lovefilm and MP3s correctly.

Thanks for your reply Lou. You have confused me at first though, mentioning tour US Kindle Fire, as I had assumed that you were in the UK, but having read the title of the thread, I guess that you are, but that you actually imported one from the US... yes?

One reason for my question is that I would like to install Skype on my new (UK) Kindle Fire HD, but when I searched the app store on the device itself, it didn't find anything.

However when I follow the link from Skype itself it takes me to a page on Amazon.com where it offers to install the app on my device!

I assume it is quite safe to do this?

Thanks Lou,just what I wanted to hear.Comparing the Fire HD to my Nexus 7 I find that the screen is much much warmer and vibrant colour wise and much, much better touch response.I've got iPlayer, itv player and Netflix up and running and Flash installed to use with dolphin browser. If only it had GPS,USB OTG and Play store I'd completely ditch the Nexus 7,but it makes a fantastic Sat Nav.I'd recommend the Fire HD to all as a good all round media tablet and good value, even at the UK price.

Thanks Darren

Bought my daughter Anna a Fire HD on Friday using my free month of PRIME. Delivery set for Yesterday

TraCked it from Peterborough to Hatfield to Borehamwood.

Rang to see if if would be AM or PM - Sorry Sir its between 0800 - 1900. Asked if driver could be contacted, maybe, whats your number.

Two hours go by no call. Ring back. Sorry Sir its between 0800 - 1900 . Driver does not have a phone.

Ring Amazon, they are apologetic but their hands tied. I ask, whats the good of PRIME & Tracking, as tracking ends at lorry level. They agree to review. Get apologetic mail, and say they will use my whinge to beat up HOME DELIVERY NETWORK LTD. However, they offer to extend my PRIME until year end (Result) if HDNL not doing delivery lol.

Anna arrives here to house watch for me from 1400 - She arrives + Delivery arrives.

Bulgarian driver very helpful, and mentions "why didn't HDNL ring me to ask"? but I told him, that he doesn't have a mobile phone lol. He then shows he's hold his phone in left hand.
