What I Read

Paperback available through CreateSpace

Hi all,

Can anyone advise on how to let it be known that "What Happened to Polly" is now available in paperback through CeateSpace? It has been up there for a week and so far, zero sales!

I'd like to let the masses know before they do their Christmas shopping but all the forums and fb pages where I interact seem to be for lovers of electronic reading only.

Thanks for any tips.

I'm probably being retarded but I can't see where you search for other people's books on Createspace. All of my printed sales have come from Amazon.

Edit: I may be being really stupid, re-reading the post - are you asking if it is available or how to let people know it's available?

It's available -- I just need to know how to get the word out.

The good thing with physical copies is that you can do autographed copies for competitions and giveaways. Good reads has been a good site for me for giveaways, but blogs and here as well could work.

RE: Paperback available through CreateSpace

Jennie, after it's been up for a little longer Amazon will show the paperback and the Kindle edition on the same page, which might help with visibility.

I made mine available via CreateSpace a couple of months ago, purely because I was getting occasional emails from readers saying they'd like to get paper versions for friends/family members who don't have e-readers. I've been pleasantly surprised at the interest: I reached the $100 and £100 limits so quickly that I had to send off an e-mail to CreateSpace asking them to hold the payments till I'd got around to sending them a W8-BEN form. But I've seen people mention paper sales of 5-10% of their ebook ones (in my case my paper sales are barely 1% of my ebook sales), so bear that in mind when you set your expectations.

I'm assuming you have a website; make sure you mention your paperbacks there. Maybe mention it in a blog post, too. If you have a mailing list, it might be worth sending the info about paper books.

Good luck with it!

Another quick tip - if Amazon don't automatically link your Kindle and paperback versions, send Createspace an email after a couple of weeks. They're very friendly and helpful, and linked both of my novels within a matter of days of asking. They also got back to me very quickly - great customer service. Smile

Yes, good advice. One of mine was slow with linking, and I was all set to ask, but then it happened automatically after all.

I agree, their customer service is great! Prompt, helpful and knowledgeable. I had a strange printing problem in one book that took them a few days to solve, and during that time they sent me progress messages so I knew I wasn't forgotten. When they'd fixed it they sent me a free replacement copy.

Thanks guys, this all sounds very encouraging.

I'll give it a couple more days and then flick them an email if the linking hasn't happened.

One day I'll make time to start a blog although my thinking is that it would be a drop in the Blog Ocean!

Cheers

You guys were right - CreateSpace people are very prompt, clear and helpful.
The day after I alerted them, the What Happened to Polly paperback was linked on both the UK & US kindle pages.

Still no sales though Sad
