What I Read

page syncing

Hi
I was lead to believe that if I read the same book on different devices (pc or ipod) that it would recognise where I had got to. When I read a few pages on the pc the kindle was still on the same page as when i'd last read on there and when I opened the same book on my ipod it was 33 chapters behind.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I know these are stupid questions but have you made sure that all the devices you are reading on are registered on your manage your Kindle page and that synchronization hasn't been turned off by accident?

Synchronization is on by default unless you accidentally switch it off to allow you to read the same book over several devices at the same time.

As long as synchronization is on, your other device registered to the same amazon account as your Kindle, and your wireless network is on and working then your books should synchronize automatically via WhisperSync.

Maybe it would be worth double checking on that all three of these are set up.

If you need to find out your Synchronization setting go to the very bottom of your manage your Kindle page and you'll find a link saying 'manage synchronisation over devices' and click there and you will be taken to a page which will tell you if it's switched on or off. If it's off change the setting back to switched on.

I have my Kindle, my iPod touch and Kindle 4 PC registered to my account and haven't had any problems with synchronizing over devices.

I think synchronization only works with books downloaded/bought via Amazon as well. But I could be wrong on that point though.

You can also manually sync books by pressing the Menu button and select "Sync to Furthest Page Read."

RE: page syncing

Thanks for the advice Lesley-Ann.
After checking all your recommendations I found that it was switched on at Amazon but not on the kindle itself. Have rectified this so hopefully now it will be sorted.
Thanks again.

I'm just glad you found out where it was going wrong and managed to fix it.
