Do you know ajyates33, are Waterstones going to be selling the Amazon gift cards as well, so you have no need to put your credit card details online at all, as I know this puts some people off of the whole e-books scenario?

No we won't be selling Amazon gift cards. The reason being is that they can't be restricted to ebooks but could be used to buy physical books that would hurt us. So not right now unless there's a workaround.

I like the idea that Waterstones are adapting to new technology. But I can't see me leaving the comfort of my chair. Having said that, some people will get some benifit from this move so good on them.

I'm currently on holiday so haven't been in work since that announcement. If I had to guess I'd say we will stock but not sure if release date too soon to sort out. Prob get confirmed next week.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out for Waterstones. It's not perfect, but at least they are trying to do something in the digital market, good luck to them I say. Hopefully it will appeal to those readers who enjoy browsing in actual bookstores, I might even be tempted to try it myself!

This sounds like an excellent plan, and like others have said it's good to see a bookshop moving along with the times. Kudos to Waterstones!

Seems like a good idea. Will Waterstones issue an official announcement of how it will work. Will they remind me to take my Kindle when I go shopping? Big Grin

This is how it works....enter store with kindle and look for Waterstones wi-fi. It will accept you , no messing with registrations an email confirmations. Then the kindle will remember the wifi connection everytime you enter ANY w store. Then it's up to you to either download or sample or read for free.
If you want to read for free then that option will be available next to try a sample on your screen. Also a standard kindle update will be available for all kindles to make this all happen at end October. Include Waterstones screensavers and potentially Waterstones bestseller charts instead of amazon ones.

Ah.. there had to be a snag. Is the update required to browse in W?

As far as I know the update isn't REQUIRED no.
The update will just enable Waterstones to interact with our customers better when using wifi. You could still use the wifi and download whatever without the update.
But id advise it as it may include non Waterstones related fixes and upgrades. The update is amazons and not our own creation.
