Amazon Kindle Paperwhite UK Release

In a somewhat puzzling turnaround, Amazon.co.uk now have the Kindle Paperwhite available for pre-order in the UK with a release date of October 25th.

Previously, Amazon's official word was that there were 'no plans' for a UK release which led many of us to import the latest and greatest Kindle from the US.

With a retail price of £109 for the Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi and £169 for the Kindle Paperwhite 3G, this new model replaces the Kindle Touch as the flagship e-ink Kindle device.

The Kindle Paperwhite has received rave reviews in the US and also right here in our imported Kindle Paperwhite review, although there have been a few reports of customers with hardware issues.

The release of the Paperwhite narrows the once-confusing e-ink Kindle range down to just three models.

My Paperwhite was ordered a few minutes after seeing the good news that it's coming to the U.K. Wine1
Really looking forward to it and I would like to select a really good book to load as my first good read on my new SuperKindle. Any ideas (Crime Fiction)

Curses! Just taken delivery of the now defunct Kindle Touch. Was expecting the PaperWhite to be a year away in the UK. Tantrum

As a reader, I'm glad to see the Kindle Owners' Lending Library coming to the UK. Not sure that authors will be so excited...

EDIT: $2.29 per borrow... perhaps they will be excited.

I thought it was a nasty virus when I saw details about it in my inbox at first, they weren't meant to be introducing it until next year! I wonder what changed their minds so quickly? It does look very nice though. Smile

Some suggestion on-line that the PW *can* be used for Twitter/ Facebook over 3G? (And that it is possible to 'break-out' of these apps because it follows out-links?) Can anyone confirm? (This is a real deal-breaker for us upgrading our KB.)
