UK Amazon Prime members to be allowed to borrow ebooks!

I just found this on Amazon UK...

http://www.amazon.co.uk...

So, from later this month, if you have Prime you will be allowed to borrow 1 ebook a month for free. Just like the Americans do.

That's exciting! - at first I thought of it with my writing hat on and then realised I am a Prime member already so will be able to take part as a reader too.

Big deal - not. Why would most Kindle readers want Prime? Kindle Sad

I'm not going to pay for Prime to be able to borrow 1 book per month. Not exactly offer of the month! Undecided

The reason people buy into Prime is for the one-day delivery I think. I order lots of amazon items for ourselves and as birthday and Xmas presents, and next day delivery is very useful. The ability to borrow books for 'free' will, for me and I suspect many others, be a bonus rather than a reason to go for Prime.

I agree with Steve that the borrowing is, for most people, just a bonus of 'prime'. In any case, it's got to be a good thing for kindle book writers - although many will go for the most expensive book they can borrow ('cause it feels like more of a bargain!).

Good point. If you can only borrow one book/month, you are likely to borrow one that you wouldn't normally buy because of cost.

I started using Prime because my son was studying English and ordering books from Amazon at a great rate - although we don't use the same account we both get free postage. He has finished his degree now but still buys almost everything from Amazon because he hates going into shops. Between us it is definitely worth the saving on postage costs anyway, and I agree with Steve that being able to borrow books will just be a bonus.

Ooh! Exciting. This is perhaps bigger news for authors than it is for readers. Few readers are likely to join Prime just for the Kindle lending library, but borrows can be a tidy little earner for authors.
