Downloading books

Just searched the forum for this and couldn't find the answer.

Is there any way to stop Amazon Kindle books from downloading to the Kindle as soon as you buy online. I know I can send it to archive when it's downloaded but would prefer to download the book when I want to stat reading it.

RE: Downloading books

No although there is nothing to stop you simply deleting the book from your Kindle and when you are ready to start reading it, find it in the Archived Items and clicking on it there will download it back onto your Kindle again.

Or you could choose to transfer it via computer when you buy it, and download it to your PC instead. Then when you want to read it, either email it you your Kindle (your Kindle's email address can be found in your Amazon account > Manage Your Kindle > Personal Document Settings), or transfer it via a USB cable.

You could turn Wifi off on the Kindle. It can't automatically download books if it's turned off.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I do now but as soon as I turn on the WiFi for any reason, Wikipedia, etc., I get all the books and have to archive them individually.
