'Maureen goes to Venice' - by Jonathan Hill

I will be releasing by second book soon. It's a comic short story called 'Maureen goes to Venice', where a lady called Maureen...er, goes to Venice. Readers of my first book of Eclectic tales will remember Maureen from a disastrous visit to a modern art exhibition. Needless to say the Italian trip does not go smoothly.

I designed the cover by cartoonifying a photo from a recent holiday in Venice. What do people think?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Anybody?

Does it need to be brighter possibly?
Is the size of any of the text too small?

I think when you get to thumbnail size your name will disappear as it will be very small, maybe good to spread the black box across the whole of the bottom of the image.

Yes, I thought that. I will try to make it bigger, although I don't want to lose too much of the reflection and I'd rather have the title considerably bigger than my name. Otherwise it looks like I have a big ego...Wink

Yes, I was thinking of that. I'll have a play with it.

There are no Cornetto jokes in it (yet) but there are plenty of laughs in it (I hope)!

A family member says it should be a 'comical short story'. This doesn't sound right but does a 'comic short story' make sense grammatically?

I don't think there's anything wrong with using comic as an adjective, so 'comic short story' is fine.
There's a subtle difference between comic and comical; comic implies that something is intentionally funny, whereas comical means possessing comedy - possibly accidentally. So, someone accidentally slipping on a banana skin would be comical, rather than comic.
A comic short story could be describing the comical incidents that befall the central character.
