How to manage/transfer content on another Kindle?

This is my first post so please be patient.

We are thinking of getting a Kindle for an elderly relative, but would welcome some advice.

She is an avid reader - 6 printed books a week - but is now struggling with their bulk and weight. She can't get out easily to buy new ones or use a library. So she is reliant on book clubs and friends to keep the supply coming.

We thought she might do better with a Kindle, so we took ours with us on our last visit. She tried them both, and found the Kindle Touch wifi easy to handle.

But she is not computer-literate, has no pc, no broadband, no wifi.

We have tried to think this through and the current plan is:
Buy the Touch and register it on our account
Find, buy and download suitable ebooks to it
Buy a mains charger so she doesn't have to worry about usb
Spend time over Christmas showing her how to use it

Then while she is working her way through the pre-loaded stuff, we continue sourcing and obtaining more ebooks, which we will transfer to her device each time we visit.

Here's the problem:
We live a long way away and see her infrequently
We don't have a laptop we can load the books onto and take up with us
She lives in a rural village with no public wifi access

So far the easiest solution seems to be that we keep all new books in our Amazon account. Then at each visit, we use the free internet and wifi access at her nearest library to download the latest batch to her Kindle. At the same time we can delete those books already read, to avoid confusing her. (I am reasonably computer-savvy, and comfortable with converting formats via Calibre, dragging and dropping books to the right folders etc)

Is there an easier way? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My suggestion would be maybe a 3g version.... that way no need for wifi

That sounds a good plan, registering it to your own account and putting the books onto it for her will be the easiest option.

You can load a whole lot of books onto it and be content that they will last her until your next visit. It's a pity you don't have a laptop you could use when you visit her though, as that would be the easiest way to deal with things.

You mention using the public wi-fi at the local library to download the books, are you going to use the Kindle's email address to send them to the Kindle before you visit, or store the books in dropbox or something and access them via the Kindle when connected to the wi-fi? Or are you planning on putting the books on an USB stick and transferring them to the Kindle by connecting the Kindle to a library PC using the USB connection?

For the latter you'd need to check with the library that you'll be ok to do that, and that'd probably be the easiest way - it makes it easier to delete the books she's read from the Kindle too. If it's the former, you'll need to check that you can get the Kindle connected to the public wi-fi ok, as if it doesn't, then you'll have a problem.

Though as nikihb says, if you were to get the 3G version, you could send books to her Kindle without her having to do anything. Although, unless you are buying them from Amazon and getting them delivered direct to her Kindle that way, there may be 3G charges if you send them via email from your PC to her Kindle's email address. The 3G is probably a moot point anyway, as the Kindle Touch 3G version hasn't been available from Amazon for a while, it's only the Kindle Keyboard with 3G that's currently available.

Thanks for your response. It certainly sounds easier that way. As l_mcd says, Amazon seem to have withdrawn the Touch 3G.
Pity, for the swipe/tap actions are much easier for our relative to handle.

My plan for the library was to use the usb stick method exactly as you described. Thanks for the warnings - I'll check it out with her library, and maybe do a dummy run with our Kindle at our own library to see if any issues arise.
