That was my thinking too Elain, though having read Joo's comments I'm tempted by the 3G model too... Undecided

RE: Which Kindle?

You can email through gmail, or skymail or whoever your provider is on their website. It's clunky and not nice, but it will do.
Yes, if there's wifi, it will try for that. Sometimes if the 3G signal is poor and there's a wifi around it insists you connect to that, but if you don't have the password, your a bit stumped.
The 3G on the KK is for anything, but the 3G on the touch is just for Amazon and wiki. Don't think they are the same, there's a big difference.

If i am not at home, then i would email or go on the internet through my phone anyway - which is easier and faster than trying to do it on the kindle.

RE: Which Kindle?

I too have the Kindle Keyboard 3G and before I got my i-Phone, I used the internet access quite a bit when we were away from home. It wasn't great and very slow, but better than nothing. The other reason I like the 3G is because, once you have a lot of books on your Kindle, you might want to have a look at a book description on Amazon to see more about a book you want to read next. I can do that wherever I am with 3G.

i used to be like that, £10 would last forever, then when i started working outside the home, as opposed to freelancing at home, it started creeping up - once it got to spending over £10 a month on payg on a regular basis it was time to go for a contract.

If anyone texts me I wait until I get to a computer and email them back as I'm too tight to pay the 10p. I'll phone people and try to hang up before they answer so they can call me back.
I'd faint if I had to get a £30 contract Omg

RE: Which Kindle?

Ha, I thought I was bad, my PAYG £10 lasts me a few months, but I do occasionally text or call people using my mobile!

As for which Kindle to get, you already seem pretty clued up Alex, so you just need to decide what you are most likely to use it for. If it's purely for reading, and as you say you have no great desire for a tablet, but want the best you can afford, why not keep an eye on how the new Kindle Paperwhite fares?

Good suggestion - thanks. Actually, although I've seen all the hype about the Kindle Fire, I hadn't even heard of the Paperwhite until I saw it mentioned on this forum - sounds as though I need to do some more research!
